HOMELESS MINISTRY

It has long been a priority for our church to create a community for people who are or have been homeless and vulnerably housed, and those who are moving forward from addiction and other challenges in their lives. Well over 200 people come along each week and each of the groups has a fantastic group of volunteers. We have had the privilege of being involved with this work for over 30 years.

We work with other great groups in our city to do this:

We have close connections with our neighbours Green Pastures Hostel, Derby City Mission, Derby Food 4 Thought Alliance and other churches and groups in our community with a heart for the poor and disadvantaged.

We host several projects in our building that have the purpose of providing a friendly welcome, and providing help:

N.A – (Narcotics Anonymous) Two groups meets here – one on a Monday at 7.30pm and the other at 8.30pm on a Thursday to help those continuing to live drug free lives.

Café 3:16 – a drop in for anyone wanting a coffee and a chat, run by James and Mary from YWAM which runs from 10.30am-12 midday on Tuesdays

Recover – a new support group for those in all kinds of addictions, aiming to help them move out of addiction through a Bible based course, which runs on a Tuesday from 2pm

Manna – a project run by James and Mary which provides hot food and fellowship for those in need which is from 12.30-2pm

Storehouse – a drop-in group headed up by Derby City Mission with volunteers from all across the city, who provide hot food and friendship from 6pm-8pm approx

Sacred Bean Summer Hub – a weekly drop in for support and a hot meal and great coffee run by a local social enterprise. This follows on from the winter months provision funded by Derby City Council.

Prior to Covid we were the Saturday night venue for Derby Churches Nightshelter for many years, and also hosted Derby Soup Run whilst they were still operating for over 30 years.
